  • When a person gradually over months or years or sometimes abruptly starts behaving abnormally, suspects others of harming him, talking about him, hatching conspiracies against him, suspects spouse, talks irrelevant, sees things or listens to voices that are not real, cannot relate to people, stays aloof and confined, poses threat to himself (suicidal) or to others (homicidal or attacks others).
  • All the mental health conditions where the patient has no insight into his odd behavior and causes distress to the people surrounding him, and gets socially & occupationally dysfunctional if not treated.

  • All the mental health conditions where patients themselves feel mental distress, worry about the future, guilt of the past, depression, feel hopeless, helpless, worthless, have suicidal thoughts and agonies, express sufferings to others, and gradually become socially & occupationally dysfunctional if not treated.

  • When a person loses control over his thoughts and needs to do many mental or physical acts to get rid of them, which may lead to significant distress in personal, family, and occupational life.

  • Any other disorder of Thought, Emotion, Perception, Behavior, Biological Functions (sleep, appetite, sex) with or without associated social & occupational dysfunction causing distress to the patient, family members, or surrounding people requiring clinical attention.

  • Any other conditions that mimic/manifest as Gastroenterological Symptoms, Cardiac Symptoms, Neurological Symptoms, Dermatological Symptoms, where clinicians say all reports are normal but the patient is not symptom-free, stays distressed with his symptoms, and his day-to-day life gets hampered.

  • Problems related to not feeling at ease with the gender – biological & mental sex is not aligned – leading to personal distress, distress among family members, and chaotic social relatedness.

  • Problems related to male and female sexual arousal, performance, and achieving delight.

  • Marijuana/Bhang Addiction

  • Excessive worries, crying spells, difficulty leaving at play school, inability to relate to peers, or hitting fellow kids.
  • Nail biting, thumb sucking, bedwetting.

  • Epilepsy, Mental Retardation & Behavioral Problems.

  • Poor scholastic performance in kids.

  • Sudden deterioration of academic performance, no interest in studies, excessive anger, crying, always expecting parents to be around and consoling, sleep disturbances, etc.

  • Behaving inappropriately in social gatherings.

  • Ruthless, defiant, stubborn, not willing to study, always demanding mobile phone, lying, destroying things.

  • Inattentive, hyperactive, fidgety at school, getting complaints from school.

  • Significantly abnormal behavior, talking to self, worries, suspiciousness, seeing things that are not present or listening to voices that are not present, sleep disturbances, talking irrelevantly.

  • Inability to relate to the environment, self-harming behavior, smiling to self, no social development, remains submerged with self.

  • Delays in developmental milestones:

    • Sitting up, crawling, or walking later than other children.

    • Problems in hearing, learning to talk later, or having trouble speaking.

    • Difficulty remembering things, understanding social rules, or solving problems.

  • Normal physical and mental development till initial few years followed by gradual or abrupt deterioration.

  • Noticing abnormal physical & mental development of the child, unlike most children of the same age group. The child shows significantly different developmental patterns, leading to panic for the parents. This could be due to:

    • Conditions present since birth, often traced to issues during:

      • Pregnancy

        • Maternal illness (e.g., cytomegalovirus, toxoplasmosis, herpes, syphilis, rubella, HIV)

        • Prolonged maternal fever in the first trimester

        • Exposure to anticonvulsants or alcohol

        • Untreated maternal phenylketonuria (PKU)

        • Intake of abortifacients

        • Toxic medications taken while pregnant

      • Delivery

        • Premature delivery

        • Traumatic childbirth (birth asphyxia leading to Cerebral Palsy)

      • Postnatal period

        • Septicemia

        • Severe jaundice

        • Hypoglycemia

        • Brain infection or injury

        • Heavy metal poisoning

  • Diverse numbers of congenital conditions, which can be confirmed by laboratory investigations:

    • Down’s Syndrome

    • Fragile X Syndrome

    • Trisomy 21

    • Various forms of Microdeletion of Chromosomes

    • ά-Thalassemia with mental retardation

    • X-linked mental retardation

    • Lissencephaly with cerebellar hypoplasia

    • Walker–Warburg Syndrome

    • Muscle–Eye–Brain Disease (MEB)

    • Fukuyama Congenital Muscular Dystrophy (FCMD) with Type 2 Lissencephaly

    • Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1)

  1. Anger, Disinhibited Behavior, remaining sad, blaming others, excessive worry, guilt feeling, talking about past, inability to perform day to day activities like shopping etc. 
  2. Problems of  biological functioning – sleep & appetite disturbances
  3. Undue shaking or tremor of limbs – some time tremor while at rest or while attempting to execute some tasks, excessive salivation, sleep disturbances, disturbed mood
  4. Irritability, violence, suspiciousness, 
  5. Problems related to memory – forgetting day to life activities, recent happenings, like inability to recall what has taken in breakfast till inability to recognize family members.
  6. Problems related to judgment – behaving inappropriately, talking obscence or sexually explicit behavior leading to a situation of shame and affecting family environment
  7. Problems related to orientation – getting disoriented, inability to return home from outside, getting confused at home, packing items attempting to go out to home while he is already at home
  8. Forgetting everything, inability to control bladder and bowel, no concern for food and going to vegetative state.
